Padlocks are portable locks used to safeguard or lock out equipment, machinery, switches, doors, and other workplace hazards. They protect property from theft, vandalism, sabotage, unauthorized use, and accidental harm. Most padlocks are designed to protect against some degree of forced or surreptitious entry. Padlocks are an economical way to secure private or valuable items, at work or at home.
The Safety Factory supplies a large selection of padlocks with different designs and styles to choose from depending on the type of security you need.
Made from solid or alloyed steel, The Safety Factory padlocks are built to withstand the most rugged environments and potential forced access.
While brass is an excellent material for resisting weather, rust, chemicals, and other environmental hazards, hardened steel or alloy padlocks are tough metals that better withstand prying or cutting.
Steel or alloy padlocks may be covered with specially fitted plastic casings—especially our Clear and Color-Coded Padlock Sleeves—to help protect them from damaging elements.
Aside from material differences, padlocks also differ in the construction of their locking mechanisms. Combination padlocks may feature a dial design or a thumb-rolled number pad on the side or bottom. You can choose a fixed-combination padlock or a resettable model that allows you to set your own code.
Keyed padlocks have the same basic structure as combination locks: a shackle (the hooked part at the top), and a base. Instead of a dial or number pad, keyed locks include a keyhole, usually at the bottom of the base. Keyed locks typically come with two keys—one for use and one for safe backup.
Combination padlocks that also allow key access are perfect for school lockers or bicycles. A key is helpful if you forget the combination. It's a good idea to write down your combination and store it in a secure place at home along with the spare key.
