Laminating Pouch Tips

Laminating pouches are available in a variety of thicknesses and finishes. Options include 3-hole punch for looseleaf notebooks, built-in easel backings for stand-up displays, 1-hole top-center pouches for hanging signs, peel-off self-adhesive pressure-sensitive pouches for attaching documents to counters, walls, desks, or doors, and super-rigid pouches for indoor or outdoor signs with 4 holes already drilled and ready for posting.
Laminating pouches come in all sizes too—wallet cards, business cards, ID cards, luggage tags, recipe cards, letters, legal documents, menus, and more. Oversized pouches are available as well for charts and posters.
What thickness of Laminating Pouch do you need?
- 3 mil each side — Economical, relatively thin lamination. Items can still be folded or rolled.
- 5 mil each side — Sturdy, durable lamination that won’t dog-ear. Smooth and flat, but still rollable.
- 7 mil each side — Rigid and strong; clear, stiff, smooth and flat. Will not roll or fold.
- 10 mil each side — Heavy-duty, clear, stiff, durable lamination. Completely rigid; will not crease or roll.
Important Tips for Laminating using The Safety Factory Laminating Pouches:
- Carrier sheets are included with every box of laminating pouches. We recommend using a carrier sheet every time.
- Ensure your pouch is at least 1/8" larger than your document on all sides. Trimming flush may expose the paper edges and cause delamination.
- If a pouch appears cloudy after lamination, increase your machine’s temperature in small increments until clear. You may re-laminate safely.
- If the pouch looks wrinkled, warped, or wavy, your temperature is too high. Reduce it and let the laminator cool before inserting a new pouch.
