Self-Laminated Safety Tags Questions & Answers

What should I check before using a self-laminated tag for tagout?

Select and use lockout devices under the employer's energy-control procedures. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(5) sets requirements for durability, standardization, substantial construction and employee identification; suitability depends on the device, application and workplace conditions. For tagout use, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(5)(ii)(C)(2) requires a non-reusable, hand-attachable, self-locking and non-releasable attachment with a minimum unlocking strength of 50 pounds. This is an attachment requirement; a tag-body or grommet pull rating alone does not establish compliance.

What is the advantage of choosing Self-Laminated Tags over other options?

The primary advantage of choosing a self-laminated version is that it is an economical way to customize the lockout tag and then seal it up for protection. With these tags, you can include bar codes, photos, machine-specific data, and even special messages such as “please don’t hurt me, I’m a nice guy” on the tag if you so choose. It gives you control over the tag's message and identification details. Select the completed tag for the application.

Given that industry operates under harsh conditions, will these tags hold up against the elements of both nature and machine?

If we made a tag that wouldn’t hold up against the heat, steam, freezing cold and water that flows through industry we wouldn’t be in business very long. We actually pride ourselves on the rugged durability we offer and we’ve seen them hold up under the toughest industrial environments around. The tags are sealed in 20 mils of rigid plastic which fully protects them from the moisture, dirt, grease and chemicals thrown their way. Not to mention that they are abuse and tamper proof which protects them from the human element as well.
