Self-laminating tags let you add employee details, a photograph or task-specific instructions before sealing the information beneath a clear overlay. Select the tag's legend, dimensions and construction for the intended use, and follow the individual product's preparation instructions.
Select lockout/tagout devices under the employer's energy-control procedures. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(5) addresses durability, standardization, substantial construction and employee identification. The 50-pound minimum in paragraph (c)(5)(ii)(C)(2) applies to tagout attachments, not a universal tag-body rating. A tag is a warning device and does not provide the physical restraint of a lock.
Employee identification is required by 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(5)(ii)(D). The standard does not universally require a photograph. A photograph may supplement the employee-identification method used under the employer's procedure.
Before use, confirm that the message is legible, that the tag and attachment suit the exposure and duration of the job, and that the required warning and employee details are present. Lamination alone does not establish compliance.
